With young children, it’s not often that I get out to see a movie on the big screen. Featuring adults and not animated characters. I had a rare movie date with my young adult daughter and her teenage cousin last eve, my daughter’s treat. Just us girls. Making it even more of a treat. Good thing she’s become a bit of a movie critic. It helps that one of her part-time jobs while in college is working at the local theatre. What a perk for a teen going into young adulthood. I don’t know if she can count how many movies she’s screened, watched and seen again in the last three years. Let alone pay for. That last part is easy. She might be able to count how many she’s paid for on one hand. The fact that she removed her wallet from her purse to treat her mama makes it all the more special.
Moving on to the subject of this post. Movie soundtracks. I tend to enjoy them. Sometimes they’re even better than the movie. I think choosing the right mix of music is integral to the tone of the film. That may be why MTV took off the way that it did. Mini-movies featuring music. Some even had a plot.
Some of my favorite soundtracks accompany many of my favorite movies. I own many of them. When I take the time to listen again, I replay parts of the movie back in my mind. One of my all-time favorites is Love Actually. The movie and the soundtrack. I don’t think one could be as good without the other. Others I enjoy are Hope Floats, The Last of the Mohicans, On Golden Pond, Top Gun, Beaches, Pretty Woman, Terms of Endearment, My Best Friend’s Wedding. I’ll add to that list Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Thanks to my loving daughter, who has become my friend again now that we’ve survived her teen years. She screened said movie and what warms my heart is she immediately thought, “this is a movie I think mom would like.” And she was right. I love that.
Crazy, Stupid Love – featured song from Muse on the soundtrack The Acorn’s
I’m off to purchase the soundtrack for Crazy, Stupid Love. I think I’ll enjoy every track. What are some of your favorite movie soundtracks? Have you discovered a new tune because of a movie? I love that too.

The first movie soundtrack I ever bought was many moons ago, when “Sleeping With the Enemy” came out. To this day, that is probably my most favorite of all time.
But coming up a close second is the “Wedding Singer.” When it comes to music, I am stuck in the 80s.
Oh, I love the Wedding Singer music too! And, anything 80s
Can’t help it, don’t judge us
The first soundtrack that popped in my mind was Pretty in Pink. I think I listened to it 1,000s of times when it came out.
Ooooh, that’s a good one, Gretchen. See, I posted this to expand my playlist!
Fav movie soundtracks? La Bamba, Hackers, Grease, When Harry Met Sally, The Lost Boys, Blues Brothers, Singles, O Brother Where Art Thou, 50 First Dates, Wedding Singer.
Many great ones from which to choose. Thanks, Melissa. You know more 80s songs than I do!
I wanted to send you a bit of note to help thank you once again for these beautiful things you have shown here. It is so wonderfully open-handed of people like you to offer unreservedly what exactly a few individuals would’ve advertised as an e book to help with making some dough on their own, precisely considering the fact that you might have done it in case you desired. The smart ideas additionally served to be the good way to know that other people have the identical fervor similar to my very own to find out a lot more pertaining to this issue. I think there are several more enjoyable opportunities ahead for those who looked at your blog.
