VlogMom – Reunions. Yay or Nay?

September 21, 201210 Comments

For the VlogMom blog hop this week I got to ask the question! Have you gone back for a high school or college reunion. Why or why not? Do you have any stories or tips to share?

Timing is perfect because I have a high school reunion next weekend. It is actually the first one my class has had where I am not on the planning committee! YAY.

What? They are a boat ton of work. All I have to worry about this time around is what I might wear. Yes, I’m breathing a sigh of relief. If you forgot to thank your reunion committee for any reunions you have attended, run, don’t walk, to get them a thank you card, send an email or call to tell them how much you appreciate what they have done for you and your class. It is their reunion too and they are working a lot before, during and after the event.

I happened to have good experiences at my past reunions. What about you?

Please visit the other bloggers who answered this week’s question and see what they have to say. Visit VlogMom to learn more about our group and see more of our vlogs.

Nope, not a high school reunion attender…honestly, I was kind of a loaner in school and didn’t socialize outside of classes. I am friends with a few people on FB from high school so if they plan a 20 year reunion, I may go!

Jenn, you must go! You never know who you will meet. Yes. I said meet. I don’t think we can truly know people from our high school days and I think 20 yrs and up are the best reunions. Things and people really have changed by then.

That was a very well spoken VLOG. You really are a wonderful speaker and your ideas make so much sense. I’m very excited to go to this reunion next weekend. I can’t wait to see everyone! I was very shy in high school and was not a part of the popular group. But I tried to be nice to everyone as much as possible. Then I grew up, became a flight attendant and REALLY came out of my shell.
I’ve had a huge fear of going to reunions because my sister was killed in a car accident on the way home from HER very first reunion that her class had. All I’m saying is that going to a reunion means something so different to all of us. You’re right too about “letting go” of things in the past. In doing so, shows maturity. For those of you who held onto grudges since high school I say…grow up. Back then we had little control over our lives. Some kids home life was very difficult. We had no control over how much our parents income was or what we wore back then because clothes were bought FOR us not BY us. Lastly, we had no control over the things our parents allowed us to do or where we went.
The BEST thing I notice about growing older is that we ALL have aged, gotten heavier, or changed in maturity. To allow such a stigma to keep you from enjoying being with those we grew up with, is sad. I don’t care how much you weigh, your earnings, who’s at your side or what you drove there in…you are my FAMILY. I want to see what everyone else has been doing for so long. Our reunion planning has been soo much fun to watch and I know I’m gonna have a blast. We’ve had a group of planners that have gone above and beyond to make sure we ALL have a great time. I’ve never would have been able to pull getting McGuffy FRICKIN Lane either. So I will see everyone there and enjoy myself because who knows if any of us will live to see a 40 th class reunion. GO WAYNE!!!!!!

I love your vlog, Rajean. Love the tips. I’ve been to two of our high school reunions, but I’m not sure if I’ll go to the next. The last one was kind of sad in that many of the people were just there to party and hook up as if we were still 18. So…loved the YouTube tip. Ha!

Melanie, let that be our mantra, ‘say no to the YouTube embarrassment :-) ’ Some people don’t grow up. Thanks for stopping by!

I love that you actually planned your reunions. I love planning things and parties and events, but I’ve never done a reunion. Definitely a hats off to you! I have to admit that I’m still looking forward to our later reunions more than I am the ones happening now. 30 year? Yep, I’ll definitely be at that one. Have FUN this weekend!
